Because during the ancient times, pigs are kept in an unhygenic ways. Pigs were left to live in mud and because their faeces is similar to the same mud they roll with, it is assume that pigs roll in their faeces as well. Muslim view them as an unclean animal

Muslims don't care if pig is clean or not clean. They only forbid themselves from eating its meat in obedience to command of Allah (God in English and same God worshiped in Christianity and Judaism). It si also for bidden to be eaten by Jews and Christians although Christians currently eat it.
