In a well conditioned 66 year old a resting heart rate of 48 would be quite normal and would indicate a a reasonable level of fitness, for individuals who have continued training for many years their resting heart rate could be even lower, the actually mechanism of how the cardiovascular system adapts to training is probably only partially understood but generally fitter people have lower resting heart rates than sedentary individuals.
It deppends it shouldn't stay at 48 because if you have been doing sport and you've got your heart rate up then You shoud have more than 48 per min Hope i helped-Beth xx :)
