it's more of a matter of opinion, many things could affect a battle between a samurai and a knight, such as weather, terrain, etc...personally, i think that the samurai would be at an advantage in any scenario. The samurai is equipped with excellent, light armour and his sword, or katana, is much lighter, stronger and longer than the knight's. In the end, the samurai would be dancing circles around knight while the knight would be awkwardly swinging his longsword, trying to hit the samurai. The samurai is also trained in a way so that he is an unstoppable killing machine.

The danger level of a samurai or a knight is subjective and heavily depends on their individual skills, training, and weaponry. The Japanese Samurai armour was normally wood rather than metal, it was much lighter and a looser fit. Even when the samurai used metal (towards the end of the age of the samurai) armour it did not encase the samurai from head to foot and was far less heavy (and also less protective). Whereas the knight in Europe was more like a modern tank, barely able to walk in full armour and virtually impenetrable to all but crossbow bolts (and in certain circumstances the longbow) the samurai was still as nimble as his lesser adversary but also more protected. Though he was also more vulnerable. Needless to say, neither the heavy armour of the European knight, nor the lighter armour of the Japanese samurai was able to compete with the peasant armed with a gun, thus making these mighty warriors obsolete.

It is great against slow-moving targets. Samurai: Katana + Wakizashi are considered very sharp for a sword and still has the inertia to break through knight armour with enough force, which the samurai has. Samurai keep it in motion to provide the most damage. A skilled swordsman can literally cut a human in half with one. A naginata was a poled weapon with a 2-4 ft blade on a 4-5 ft shaft. It can cut through bamboo (deadliest warrior). Winner: Samurai's many swords. While the knight has only one weapon suited for 1 opponenet, samurai weapons can be used against anybody including the knight. Infamously sharp and powerful swords and spears can cut through bone, flesh and even bamboo. Winner: Samurai. Knights are tough but samurai are strong. Knight's defenses can be penetrated by the samurai before the knight penetrates the samurai. It would be the knight's armour against the samurai sword. Knights' only long range weapon is the crossbow that unless aimed at a inmobile target, is likely to hit a non-fatal region in samurai armor if the yumi cannot penetrate the knight armour. In the end, the samurai is a pocket knife with tools ready to fit in any situation while the knights can only beat other heavily armoured opponenets. Did I mention the kanabo club would probably be able to disarm and incapacitate the knight if needed?
