it is nonliving
Seed is living as it has got capacity to grow to a plant under favourable
conditions. Life is dormant in seeds.
Seeds become dead under unfavourable storage conditions.
What is life?
In simple terms life is the ability to multiply.
Seeds may need energy to keep living as we say seeds are living under favourable conditions.
The energy needs may be minimal.
It means it has not started to germinate.
A dormant seed is alive.
The seed is incased in a seed coat that is very protective and the embryo within the seed is dormant, meaning that the seed is able to survive long periods without food or water.
Seed dormancy is a condition of plant seeds that prevents germination when the seeds are under optimal environmental conditions for germination. Living, non dormant seeds germinate when soil temperatures and moisture conditions are suited for cellular processes and division; dormant seeds do not.
Alive
A dead tree is alive because there are many little bugs and critters living in the dead log !
Seeds are designed to dry out which puts the embryonic plant into dormancy. However some seeds also have a hard outer covering which protects the seed and prevents water entering the seed for many years. Such seeds (eg the poppy) can have a dormancy exceeding 10s of years. Some seeds also need frost before they will germinate a process called cold stratification. Others need fire to start the process.
Tropisms
Dormant?
foe a dormant seed it is almost negligible and for a germinated seed it is more.
A seed that is resting is 'dormant'.
Dormant seed
dormant condition
Dormant is alive, but asleep. Living is alive.
Dried beans are usually living, but dormant, and will grow when conditions are right. Water, soil temperature and so on.
It is itself alive (the cells of the peach are alive) and it contains a seed which is alive and capable of making a new peach tree.
maybe the answer is SEED
