Best Answer

Suspension is a heterogeneous mixture in which the particles are large enough to be seen by a microscope or the unaided eye (eventually, they settle out of the mixture). Example: stirring a teaspoon of sand in a glass of water.

unless the suspension is colloidal where the particles suspended are roughly equal in size and distribution, generally most suspensions are considered to be heterogenous, meaning that the same properties are not seen throughout the mixture (it does not all appear to be the same)

Suspensions occur when a liquid has reached a total saturation point and can no longer dissolve a substance into the liquid. The solvent is then suspended in the solution

Solutions are homogeneous mixtures; suspensions are heterogeneous mixtures;

What are the three mixtures?

The three mixtures are: Solutions, Suspensions and Colloids.

How do Suspensions relate to mixtures?

Suspensions are mixtures in which the density of the liquid and the solid are such that the solid neither sinks not floats in the liquid but is suspended throughout.

Can mixtures be classified as solutions suspensions or colloids?

By its size

Are all solution mixtures?

Yes, all solutions are by definition mixtures.

What are three kinds of homogenous mixtures?

solutions, colloids and suspensions

What is the answer to mixtures suspensions colloids and solutions worksheet?

* Mixtures contain two or more compounds.* Suspensions contain solids not soluble in liquids; dimensions are over 1 micrometer. Suspensions also exist in gases.* Colloids have dimensions between 100 nm an 1 micrometer.* Solutions are homogeneous mixtures, generally as liquids.

Do suspensions scatter light?

Yes, colloids scatter light. Colloids are mechanical mixtures; all mechanical mixtures scatter light. Solutions are the only mixtures that do not scatter light. The scattering of light by mixtures is known as the Tyndall effect, btw.

Do homogeneous mixtures include colloids solutions and suspensions?

A solution is a homogeneous mixture.

What mixtures scatter a beam of light that passes through them-a phenomenon called the Tyndall effect?

These mixtures are colloids or very fine suspensions.

What is a colloid and what is an example?

A colloid is an example of a mixture. Specifically, colloids are mixtures in which the components do not separate. Mixtures in which the components do separate are known as suspensions.
