Definitely. It's a written record of the entire trial. In case of impropriety, a copy is sent to the powers that be and maybe determined that a new trial is warranted. Or,
The witness might say that he actually didn't say what the lawyer said he said (I wrote that on purpose, you follow?). The lawyer (wow! I almost capitalized lawyer!) might say "yes you did. Your Honor, with the court's permission, I'd list to ask the court recorder to read the phrase, cite the line number and page of the transscript [sp] where the witness uttered the phrase". Clear?
The appellant would provide a full transcript from the original trial, complete with exhibits along with the necessary appellate brief and documents.

Refer to the case court jacket on file with the clerk of the court's office. If the jacket does not already contain a typewritten transcript of the trial (very few do), the file will contain information as to who the court stenographer was, or what agency or company they worked for. Contact the court stenographer, or their employer, and they will quote you a price for reproducing the transcript.
If the trial is taken down, you would be looking for a transcript. In most cases, you could order a copy from the court reporter at your own cost. However, due to the cost of transcripts, it is rare that a non-party would spend the money for the transcript.

all you have to do is go the court where the trial took place and request a transcript from the clerk of courts. They may require a small charge per page for printing this out for you. I am trying to obtain the transcript of a trial just concluded and have been informed that I could have it after I wrote them a check for $11,500.00. I was only requesting a digital copy not a printed version. Is there a way I can acquire it without such an enormous expenditure?

It is a typed record of court proceedings, once trial has concluded. All oral evidence given at the trial will be recorded therein. A transcript of the judgment is required to be forwarded to the High Court(or Supreme Court of Appeal), prior to an appeal being heard on the matter. Danté van der Merwe, attorney at law
If you have the document that legally changed your name it is not necessary to change the transcript.
