As of Jan 1st, 2011, no they are not.
Vehicle Code Section 5201 states:
"License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging, shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible, and so that the characters are upright and display from left to right, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible. The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 60 inches from the ground, and the front license plate shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground."
You can not have a vertical license plate in California. California Vehicle Code says they must be mounted so that the characters are upright and display from left to right.
As long as it faces backward and is lighted there is no problem.
No, in Texas motorcycle license plates must be horizontally mounted. Vertical mounting is not allowed as it does not comply with state regulations.
Just as on a car, a motorcycle tag has to be placed in the rear on the spot reserved for it. If there's no place for the tag, it's not a street-legal bike.- - - - - - - - To improve on this answer. On a motorcycle, they have after market side plate mounts and vertical mounts. Depending on what state (refer to your State Manual) you are in, maybe be legal/illegal. On my motorcyle, i have a after market vertical side plate mount, which is legal in the state of CT. Some other states, prohibit any vertical license plates.Call the DMV or State Police in your state for more information about motorcycles or find it on line.
No, you must have a license to ride a motorcycle on a public street or road.
no. laws regarding trailers though may vary, you will need to check those out by municipality. what about on a motorcycle, the state trooper said it was illegal ??
No, Insurance companies require the rider to be 'road legal' and that includes the need for a valid license for the motorcycle to be insured.
no, you need a motorcycle endorsement
Yes a side mounted licence plate is legal in the state of Georgia. The only stipulations are that it is mounted horizontally and is illuminated. The vertical mounted plates( the ones you see in the parts magazines) are not.
In the state of California a "motorcycle" has a seat or saddle for the rider, and is designed to travel on not more than three wheels. A "motor-driven cycle" is a motorcycle with a 149cc or less engine size. Note: you may not operate a motor-driven cycle on the freeway. It is not advised to take anything less than a 250cc motorcycle on the freeway, even that could be dangerous. Besides a California Motorcycle License, Current Registration & License Plate, and of course Insurance; at minimum, your street-legal motorcycle must have:Tires with sufficient tread for safe operation.Headlight, taillight, brake light, and turn signals.Front and rear brakes.A horn and two mirrors.Hopefully you find this answer to be helpfull.
I think that the legal limit is 17. But u get a learners permit at 16.
Oregon only states that it should be in plain view and easily read by the public. ORS 803.540 Section 1a and 1c. It is not stated that it should be viewed "Horizontal" like some states specify. Looks to be legal
