An object can be at rest with or without friction. An object floating in outer space can be at rest. An object that is glued to the floor can also be at rest.
Static
To move an object at rest, you must apply a force to overcome the force of static friction that is keeping the object stationary. Ensuring that the applied force is greater than the force of static friction will allow the object to start moving.
Kinetic friction is the friction that applies when an object is moving; static friction is the friction that applies when the object is not moving. Static friction must always be greater than, or equal to, kinetic friction.
When performing work, the two types of friction that are acting upon are static friction and kinetic friction. Static friction occurs when an object is at rest, preventing it from moving. Kinetic friction occurs when the object is in motion, resisting its movement.
If an object is stationary on a surface then the forces acting on it are the Gravitational force and the Normal force(the force of the surface pushing back against the object). Technically you could be pulling(or pushing) that object from opposite directions with equal forces and it would remain stationary. The important thing to understand is that a stationary object remains stationary so long as the net forces applied to it equal zero.
Static friction.
Static friction is the type of friction that occurs when an object is at rest and prevents it from moving when a force is applied to it.
The friction force that acts on an object when it is at rest is called static friction. It is a force that opposes the initiation of sliding motion and prevents the object from moving. The magnitude of static friction is equal to the force applied to the object, up to a certain maximum value.
Perhaps you mean friction or inertia.
stiction
Usually gravity and friction.
the static friction is the force of friction that keep an object at rest from movie and kinetic friction is the force of friction that tries to start a moving object
Friction.
It provides static friction, so the object cannot move until the static friction is overcome.
static
You must overcome static friction to get an object to start moving. Static friction is the force that resists the initial motion of an object at rest.
Static friction acts in the opposite direction of the force trying to move the object.
