Arid means really dry and semi arid means half dry like half a desert
If something is arid, it is dry. It is not necessarily either hot or cold, but it is very dry.
Arid is another word for extremely dry.
A synonym or other word for arid would be dry. You could also say barren or parch.
An arid region, such as a desert, receives less than 10 inches (250 mm) of rain per year. A semiarid region receives between 10 inches and 20 inches (500 mm) of rain per year on average. They are not the same thing.Semi-arid is less dry than "dry and arid" which means dry and dry. "Semi-" means half, so something semi-arid is only half as dry as something which is arid.
Either arid or semi-arid would be dry. An arid region (Atacama Desert) receives virtually no rainfall while a semi-arid region (Sonoran Desert) receives some rainfall.
