Ventricular fibrillation. Basically the patient is dead. Atrial fibrillation causes an irregular heartbeat because the ventricles are receiving disorganized impulses from the SA node. Ventricular fibrillation is where the SA node and the AV node are not firing and the Purkinje fibers are supplying the electrical impulses to the heart. However, the Purkinje fibers are not able to supply enough electricity to contract the ventricles so the heart is twitching but not beating. A heart that is not beating is not circulating blood which means the patient is dead.

During atrial fibrillation, the atrium does not contract. but blood still flows passively into the ventricle which then pumps it to the body. During ventricular fibrillation, the ventricle does not contract, the body does not receive any blood, and the patient is in cardiac arrest, which is fatal if not reversed.

Ventricular fibrillation is far more serious. It is a medical emergency as the main pumping chambers of the heart (the ventricles) become ineffective.

Atrial fibrillation is often asymptomatic. Usually it is first noticed as an irregular pulse. It can however lead to poor/insufficient heart function and more serious symptoms.

Ventricular fibrillation (irregular heart beat) is more deadlier since ventricule is the ultimate pump that pumps blood to the rest of your body.

If a person has atrial fibrillation, the atrium beats 400-600bpm. However, only 100-150 beats will pass through the AV node to the ventricles. At a rate of 100-150 beats, the person's body still receive enough blood to keep the person going.

However, if the ventricle beats 400-600 bpm, there won't be enough blood to be bumped out of the heart to the rest of the body (including the coronary blood vessel). At the end, the person with ventricular fibrillation will die to myocardial infarction or heart attack (due to lack of blood to the coronary blood vessels).

V-fib is more dangerous than A-fib, because the in A-fib the ventricles are still pumping blood to the lungs and the body, just at a lower rate than in a sinus rhythm In V-fib the ventricles are just quivering and not moving any blood, which can be a form of cardiac arrest.
