Beetroot has been known as a folk medicine for treating hypertension and increasing stamina. Its possible effects on diabetics are probably low, however it does have a very high level of natural sugar so diabetics would be advised to eat them in a more natural (as opposed to processed) way. Also ask nutritionalists, doctors, etc.
Also Wikipedia notes that several preliminary studies suggest beetroot, with its nutrient betaine, may protect against liver disease caused by Diabetes (among other causes).

Type 1 diabetes can affect anyone, doesn't matter what age you are. Type 2 diabetes is can also affect anyone but it is generally age related and you are more likely to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when you are older.
