Well, it isn't imaginary...

Bonded leather is leather fibers from milled scraps. It is held together by a bonding agent (glue). It is made in a manufacturing process that is similar to paper making.

In many cases (particuarly the UK) this cannot be sold as 'leather' but must be designated as 'bonded leather'

What is the difference between bonded and blended leather?

Bonded leather is made from scraps of real leather that are bonded together using adhesives and then coated with a layer of polyurethane. Blended leather is made by mixing real leather fibers with synthetic materials to create a more durable and consistent material. Bonded leather is typically lower quality and less durable than blended leather.

What percent is leather on bonded leather?

While it may mimic the appearance and feel of real leather, it lacks the durability and breathability of genuine leather.

Does bonded leather crack?

Yes, bonded leather can crack over time, especially if it is exposed to excessive wear, heat, or moisture. Unlike genuine leather, bonded leather is made from a mix of leather scraps and synthetic materials, which can lead to deterioration and cracking as it ages. Proper care, such as keeping it clean and conditioning it regularly, can help extend its lifespan. However, it generally does not have the same durability as real leather.

Wearability of bonded leather compared to leather?

Bonded leather is basically scrap leather and other materials (could be vinyl, split hides, textiles and who knows what) combined and manufactured with chemicals to produce bonded leather. Top grain leather, which is the most popular leather available today, at a relatively low cost and just a bit more than bonded leather, will hold up better, give a nicer touch, and outlast bonded leather.
