EDUCATED ANSWER [08-21-09]:
YES.
(The person who previously answered this question is clearly referring to that silly game about standing in front of the mirror and calling out for the Candyman to appear. He doesn't seem to know where that little game originates...)
The Candyman killer is real. His name was Dean Coril, and he killed teenage boys by luring them with "treats" circa early 1970s.
(Look up Dean Coril, but then again, you can see how reliable some of these sources are... Just go to a library.)

The candyman and bloody Mary bring to mind the common term, "myth." Having similar stories and incantations to summon them simply concludes both as variations of each other. To say they are real is untrue, as is to say the aren't real. No one has proof of their existence, only that told through folklore and storytellers. Urban legends claim their tales to be based on real events, and perhaps these variations of the actual story were created to explain them easily.
They have similarities, because Candy Man originated with Bloody Mary. But the tales are different.

At the age of 37, Mary I of England focused her attention on finding a husband and producing an heir. While there were many potential suitors and opinions on who she should marry, Mary's cousin Charles V (of the Holy Roman Empire) suggested she marry his only son, Prince Phillip (II) of Spain.
Why is there a movie of spider-man if he isn't real? People enjoy made-up things.
