Coal is a non-renewable resource, because it takes extreme conditions and a very long time for decomposing organic matter to turn into coal.

The term, renewable is a bit of a misnomer. Even solar energy, wind power, and geothermal sources aren't renewable, in the strictest sense of the word. These are considered to be inexhaustible, as mankind probably won't be able to significantly deplete them.
