Yup, Codeine along with Thebaine and Morphine are the primary 3 alkaloids found in the Papaver somniferum (opium) plant. All of them are controlled substance because of their recreational value and/or ability to create semi-synthetic recreational narcotics like Heroin and Oxycodone.
On a side note these Opium based drugs (eg. Codeine) are in no way related to the benzodiazepine family of drugs (eg. Xanax), while they both have recreational value for the most part, they effect the brain in a very different way and the "high" is very different from one another.
