It was used mostly by the Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu community(whose population is between 80k-100k) from which Anand Dighe hailed who are considered Brahmakshatriya, this surname Dighe evolved from an ancestor named Gopal Prabhu Dixit) It's also found among Marathas who are Nayak-kshatriyas(among them it evolved from the Rajput surname Diggit) We also find the evidence of a Deshastha Brahmin, whose work was that of a Gumasta adopting it from a Kulkarni-Dighe Prabhu family!
