No it is not Overdrive is the Top Gear that has a higher ration than 1 to 1. So if you have a 4 speed automatic with overdrive, then 4th is not overdrive. Overdrive is beyond 4th.
your overdrive unit is probably shot. that is the fourth gear or drive as you call it. they have had lots of trouble with all overdrive automatics in the states. your opel is a GM design.
If you have a digital display which tells you the gear the vehicle's in, the gear it's in can tell you if you're in an overdrive gear or not. However, you have to know your transmissions. For example, in a transmission such as the 4L60E or 46RH, only the fourth gear is the overdrive gear, so you know you're in overdrive when you're in that gear. The 6L80E has two overdrive gears, so you're in overdrive when you're in fifth or sixth gear. The other way involved a bit of mathematics, and probably isn't that practical to try doing while the vehicle is in motion. You would also need to know your transmission final drive ratio and your rear end gear ratio.
Drive is 3rd Gear. Overdrive is 4th Gear.
you have burnt out the 3rd. gear and overdrive. you will have to have it rebuilt or replaced.
If it has overdrive use it! it is a "highway gear" it will make no difference what so ever until you get up to speed then it will shift into overdrive and save you gas!
overdrive.
On the Nissan 240SX the electric overdrive switch is located on the right side of the transmission. Overdrive allows shifting into the auto's fourth gear.
the top gear, which will include overdrive. It will be the first selection after neutral.
no you don't have to drive with overdrive on permanently, but you will change gear quicker and less smoothly, also your fuel consumption will increase by as much as 50%.
is this a manual box with the button on the top of the stick to get 5 st overdrive gear drive in forth up to 40 mph then press the button overdrive light green light now on press to come out of overdrive or change down a gear to third.
Sure if you want to use lots of fuel and put extra wear on the engine.
Overdrive is almost like another gear for your transmission. Say you have a four-speed w/ overdrive automatic transmission in your car. Once you get up into fourth gear, and if you're not trying to accelerate hard, the trans will kick into overdrive. It drops the engine's RPM's and saves gas. When you are traveling on the highway it help to conserve fuel.
