Ethanol is a CNS depressant. It is only thought to be stimulating when individuals experience its disinhibiting properties and confuse this with CNS stimulation (which does not occur with ethanol).

∙ 14y agoyes. any substance, and i mean ANY substance that can alter your mood, vision, decision making, state of mind etc. is considered a stimulant. however if you go by what a public school teaches than its more towards a no. ethanol is part of an ingrediant to alcohol. the type you drink. but alcohol is mainly considered a downer or psychoactive drug.
