I believe that Londoners prefer cod with their chips. More civilised Northerners prefer the infinitely more delicate and flavoursome haddock. The Scots are given to frying Mars Bars or so it is said.

Fish isn't made into chips, those are seperate!

Fish sold at fish & chip shops usually include cod, plaice and haddock (although some shops nearer coastal areas may offer a wider range). Quite simply, they are skinned and de-boned fillets of fish which are deep-fried in batter. They are served with thick-cut deep-fried chips ('fries' as they are called in the USA), and can be seasoned with salt and vinegar if the customer wishes.

Fish and chips are made from battered fish and french-fried potatoes. Usually the fish is cod or halibut.
