A gas.

Steam is the gas form of H2O, water is the liquid form of H2O and ice is the solid form of H2O.

In factit is an invisible gas. When you see steam , you are looking at tiny droplets of water becausetheir temperature has dropped below 100 degrees C. So when people see steam, they are actually looking at water. Because true (uncondensed) steam is invisible it is extremely dangerous because if you walk into a jet of it you are in dead trouble. Its temperature could be way, way above 100 deg C. Over the years, particularly during the development of steam engines, many people have been killed.

Steam is a liquid until you can no longer see it. the stuff you see rising of boiling water is tiny water particles. that is why your hand gets wet if you touch it. as the water molecules in the steam rise and spread out into the air, you are no longer able to see them. this is when the water molecules are in gas form.

The boiling of water instantly turns it to gas. I think what you think your seeing is the excess heat from the bringing the water to a boil. That makes up most of steam, if there is any water it is recondensing from your cooler hand or the temp of the air above it. Its such a small amount of water that it dries by evaporating, no more boiling required.

No you can see many gases. Steam is a gas but made out of water vapour

Actually, no. Steam isn't a gas. If you want water in the form of gas, that would be water vapor. Steam may look like gas, but it isn't. It is really just tiny droplets of water. Why won't you perform a test? Boil some water for about 5-10 minutes, open the pot, and pay really close attention to what is coming out. You will see tiny drops of water. Hope I helped!

There are 3 (main) states of matter: solid, liquid, gas

Steam is water that has been heated from liquid form to a gas. You can have a gas of many things, provided it has been heated sufficiently.
