Ghost is not dead because at the start sombody says " Why do we have fire proof vests". Also when ghost gets shot he gets shot in the shoulder. But thats when the fire proof vest comes in, so when he is burrned the fire proof suit protects him.

Yes, I think ghost is alive in MW3. how i know this is because at the beginning of one of the missions in MW2, Ghost quotes 'why do we have to were these fire-proof vests anyway?' and then near the end of the game when shepard shoots you and ghost, when you are thrown into the ditch by shepards men you see ghost being thrown in with you, but he has only been shot in the hip, not in the face or neck so he isn't dead from the bullet. Then sheperds man only pour Gasoline on you, not ghost, so ghost won't be set alight, bearing in mind that he has a fire-proof vest on. So, in theory, Ghost should have survived the shot and the fire and come back in MW3 :)

Ghost is not alive in MW3. The rumors on the internet weren't true. Ghost died in MW2. He took a .44 Magnum round to the chest and was promptly lit on fire. General Shepard wanted to make sure that there were not any loose ends in his friends.
