It is possible that members of this group survived until 500 years ago in the Antilles, but the most recent dating that is reliable is more like 6000 years ago.
One genus of ground sloth, Megatherium, is known as the Giant Ground Sloth. It was a big as an elephant. Some other ground sloths were also quite large. The most recent evidence of these giants surviving is dated about 10,000 years ago.
