Best Answer

Nope. Goldfish are Cold Blooded, which allows them to survive during the winter in nearly frozen lakes. They do prefer relatively warm water and their metabolism will slow down if they are in cold water long enough.

Most indoor tank temperatures are just fine for fish. A water heater can be used during winter or if the room temperature is especially chilly.

How long can an goldfish live with out food?

Goldfish are cold-blooded which means they don't need to eat as much as warmblooded animals who use a lot of energy to warm their bodies. A goldfish can go a week of more without eating. They won't starve to death like a warmblooded animal would but they will be hungry and stop growing. Once food is reintroduced, they will begin to grow again.
