During a lighting storm she was doing the dishes under running water, and was knocked across the room. She survived, but it was not a good way to learn that water and lighting are not a good mixture for us.

Current answer True and false as ground rods use to be tied to the pluming creating a good path however for the past 10 years most plummers and new construction has been using CPVC and PVC for sewer which are non conductive so grounding robs are sunk deep into the ground instead.

However lighting can still travel into your house on any other metal cable which has fried many modems and computers if the modem was internal which is why I always had an external modem. but now days I no longer worry about that as I have Fios which is non conductive optic glass and I protect everything in my house with Panamax surge units that will sacrifice them self's to protect the equipment
