Typically a person using Oxygen will use it with a mask or with a cannula. A typical Concentrator will produce between .5 LPM (liters per minute) and 10 LPM. Your body should be OK if you had the Cannula or mask on you because the Boy only pulls Oxygen out of the air. Other elements (Nitrogen, co2, Xenon, Krypton, etc.) are not used by the body and are exhaled. If you breathed in Pure Oxygen you would exhale some Pure Oxygen and co2.

Development and Use of the Oxygen Concentrator?

An oxygen concentrator is a device that is used for the purpose of providing a patient with oxygen therapy. They are a less costly and safer alternative used in place of compressed oxygen tanks. In industrial processes, an oxygen concentrator may also be used to provide a source of oxygen that is more economical. Even the most basic oxygen concentrator is able to deliver a continuous flow of oxygen at a rate of up to five liters per minute. Oxygen level concentrations range from anywhere between 50 and 90 percent. In recent years, patients who need a higher flow of oxygen have been able to obtain concentrators that can provide as much as 10 liters of oxygen per minute in sizes that are not much bigger than the smaller 5 liter per minute concentrators. The need for a portable oxygen concentrator has influenced manufacturers to produce even smaller and lighter weight models. These models have adapters that allow user to plug them into vehicle DC outlets for use while traveling. Some also have battery capabilities for use when the oxygen concentrator needs to be utilized during air travel or in areas where standard power outlets are unavailable. Oxygen concentrator safety is one of the advantages of using them in place of oxygen cylinders. These can potentially rupture or leak creating a serious risk of combustion. For this reason, oxygen concentrators are commonly used during a disaster or in military situations since they do not pose the same dangers as oxygen cylinders. Patients now have the freedom to use a prescription oxygen concentrator in the home environment. Some patients that have greatly benefited from prescription home use include those with conditions such as emphysema and sleep apnea. The oxygen concentrator, when used in industrial situations, is sometimes referred to as an oxygen generator. This is to differentiate it from concentrators used for medical purposes. If medical and non- medical use concentrators where both referred to by the same name, they might easily be confused.

The Advantages of Oxygen Concentrators?

Oxygen concentrators are valuable instruments that are used for a variety of purposes, most often by people with respiratory diseases, rescue teams, hospitals, and even the military. In recent years, patients with serious respiratory ailments have begun renting oxygen concentrators from hospitals to treat this illnesses at their own homes. This can be a particularly good idea for patients with illnesses like sleep apnea, which requires steady treatment via an oxygen concentrator or a similar device. There are several reasons that oxygen concentrators are considered to be good options for these diseases. First of all, an oxygen concentrator is a much safer option than oxygen tanks or other highly flammable containers of oxygen. Oxygen concentrators work by removing nitrogen from the air by way of several compressors, and clean, steady oxygen is administered directly to the patient via a mouthpiece. Because the concentrator only creates oxygen to feed through this mouthpiece, there’s no steady supply of oxygen to be ignited. This means that they’re far superior choices for patients who smoke or who are worried about the possibility of accidental ignition. Oxygen concentrators are also less expensive than many other alternatives, and can be easily leased by patients for temporary or permanent use. Many of the devices cost under a thousand dollars, and from a medical standpoint, this makes them fairly inexpensive. They can operate very quietly, allowing them to be used in a room with a sleeping partner. Modern technology has also allowed small oxygen concentrators to be introduced, and these are a great choice for anyone who doesn’t have much living space or who doesn’t want a large, cumbersome object laying in their bedroom. Smaller oxygen concentrators can be easily stored in a closet or even under a bed, and require moderate amounts of power for use. The advantages of oxygen concentrators has made them fairly dependable, steady options for patients with a variety of lung issues, from the aforementioned sleep apnea to emphysema. They’re a great new option that allow for easy, safe sleep, both in a hospital and in a patient’s own home.
