At the beginning, it is easier to make excuses instead of a responsible statement, but overtime the excuses pile up which will overtime make it hard to get people to believe you when you say an excuse. Therefore, in the long run, it is easier to make a responsible statement. (And that doesn't mean a responsible excuse because those don't exist.)
