Gold can be both soft and hard depending on how pure it is, pure gold (24K) is softer than a gold alloy. And the lower the number the harder it is. 10K is harder than 14K, 14K is harder than 18K, and 18K is harder than 24K (pure gold).

If the 'B' comes before the 10k it's a maker mark, after the 10k it's gold over something else. I have a gold ring marked ( B10k ) it's real 10kt I've been wearing it for years now and no change. But mine is Victorian pretty old.

gold isn't man made. it is hard to mine it all at once, and the people that mine it may keep it so when supplies at stores run low the sellers that mine the gold can raise the price. and if in short supply at the store those prices get highered

You need an iron pickaxe or better to mine gold. Ironically, a gold pickaxe will not be able to mine itself.
