I asked the police about carrying knives. I always carried a small multi-tool for opening envelopes, plastic wrap, etc. Since 9/11 all knives must be visible to the police. No concealed carry. However, he did say that if an officer spots your sheath knife it could lead to a shake down. Depending on the officer, prosecutor, and judge you could get a felony charge for carrying an edge of any length..."CONCEALED". Not worth it. Many shoplifters carry an edge to open packages. A sword cane, though usable as a cane, IS considered a concealed weapon (any item created as a weapon which is disguised or hidden so as not to allow full public view), and as such can only be carried with a concealed weapons permit in Florida.

Massachusetts General Laws Part IV Title 1, Ch. 269 Section 10 makes no provision to the carrying of cane swords. It's not specifically legal or otherwise; there are no general knife laws aside from double bladed or automatic (switchblade, gravity) or dirk (stiletto) knives. However, the city of Boston does have separate legislation regarding length. Always check with local authorities if you are unsure.

Is there a way to take the sword out of a sword cane without breaking either the sword or the cane?

To draw the sword, simply grasp the handle and twist, drawing straight out. If you mean a way to remove the sword blade from its cane handle, well, if you do that, it won't have grip. It'll be a blade with a tang, which would make it count as "broken", wouldn't it?

No. The NC DOJ has very explicitly stated that a NC concealed carry permit only allows you to carry one firearm, and does not cover any other types of weapons.
