Guinea pigs eat paper all the time. Sometimes it means they're hungry, but it usually means they're just bored. It's harmless to them anyway. It could also mean they need something to chew so if you don't have anything for them to chew you should get something because they need it for their teeth. A stick from an apple tree or a non toxic wooden house or toy is best.
HOWEVER ....
Even though guinea pigs primarily eat cellulose, paper is industrially processed and has little food value. Every major book on the care of guinea pigs states that they need a constant supply of a special type of hay called timothy. Alfalfa hay is notnutritionally equivalent.
Consuming more than a small amount of processed paper can adversely affect a piggy's diet, so it's important to make sure they have what they need for optimum health.

∙ 14y agoNo. Cardboard is not a dietary requirement for your Guinea pig and can even make him/her sick. Be carful what you feed your guinea pig e.g. DO NOT feed them lettuce.

Yes! Definately! I know of guinea-pigs that eat it all the time! It is normal behaviour and is simply alike to us humans eating biscuits. Don't worry! Other weird things that guinea-pigs will eat include; Wood Their cage! Newspaper PS. Never attempt to feed guinea-pigs, (or any other creature for that matter), any substance that may be regarded as harmful.
