It's food...Of course it does! I've worked at McDonald's for 5 years so I know. McDonald's food sometimes have 2 different expiration dates/times. One for when it's not opened and the other for after it's been opened. Opened product's expiration date is referred to as the "secondary shelf life". If a product isn't used before its expiration date, it is recorded then thrown in the trash. So, something maybe good for a month if frozen…
When the expiration date has passed on food or dairy products when it's still on the shelves of a supermarket, it should be considered to be unsafe for eating or drinking. In some cases a food label will say. "best to eat after the food opened 10 days or less " for example, this is an item purchased before its expiration date. Once it's opened the above notice on the label should be followed.
It is based off of the open date on the card.. Some companies use 4 years from the open date and same month.. eg: opened card 7/10... expiration date will be 7/14 .. some use 5 years same month.. and others will adjust the month usually by adding 2 months to every 4 years .. eg: opened car 01/10 .. expiration will be 3/14
Answer: Check all around the bag; don't forget the "crimp!" If you cannot find the date, or if the product is opened, DO NOT EAT. (If you find the expiration date, yet the rings are expired, then it would be unhealthy to eat the rings, or even one.) The expiration date depends on the bag, when you got it (even where you got it) and several other factors. Check your bag! Another Answer:
There seems to be two theories here. Some say use by expiration date, which sometimes is a year or so after the purchase date. Others say seven to ten days after opening. These are vastly different periods of time. So which is it? Can an opened juice container be left in the fridge for months and still be safe to consume as long as the date hasn't passed the expiration date?
All peanut butter is labelled with an expiration date on the package. It is best to throw away any food by the time the expiration date is up, or shortly thereafter for foods with a long shelf life such as peanut butter. The product may be good for some time after opening if opened near the date of expiration. It is best to use your judgement, and if in doubt, throw it out.
