Yes and No.
Yes because after the second world war a Japanese man got left behind on an island. He stayed there and didn't go back because he thought the war wasn't gone yet. People do sail around the world in a yacht. Orangutans are being slaughtered by hunters who want to kidnap their babies and sell them. Newly hatched turtles do have to make a run for it from the beach into the sea. No because he takes truths and weaves them into fiction.
Yes it is because at the back of the book there is a letter and it is a letter to Michael from Kensuke's son
kensukes kingdom is in fact true because Michael went to visit michiya kensukes son 3 years after the book was wrote and when Michael received the letter from michiya telling him that he did not know his father very well so he wanted to know more about kensuke his father Michael then went to japan and and stated in the postscript that he laughed just like michiyas father kensuke, kensuke was a navy doctor because it was during the time when the atomic bomb fell on Nagasaki (japan) during world war 2 that is why kensuke was alive all of Michael Morpurgos books have a story and a headline
No.
For about 6 months, I've read the 'Post Script' at the back, and I thought, yeah, it IS real!
Then, recently, I looked at the Website of the Author and actually it's just fake to keep the readers 'wondering' about it. However, there is SOME truth about a soldier left behind, but just not on that island or with him there or whatever.
Honestly, I think it's really dumb that he didn't put 'THIS BOOK IS FICTIONAL' on it. Although the rumors still ripple round, there's the hard truth for you (now I really don't like Kensuke's Kingdom because everyone thinks its real when it's just a sham).

Kensuke's Kingdom is by Michael Morpurgo. Michael and his family are sailing around the world and Michael is washed off the boat. He meets Kensuke and together they survive being alone on this island.
Yes,this is a true story.
I have seen somewhere that the postscript in Kensuke's Kingdom is not true.
friendship and loss
"Kensuke's Kingdom" is a work of fiction by Michael Morpurgo, so the postscript at the end of the book is not true in a factual sense. However, it serves to provide closure to the story and offer some reflection on the themes presented throughout the book.
No, Michael is not Kensuke's son.
