A metaphor is a literary analogy, a comparison of a person, thing, or act with another dissimilar object or concept, without using the words "like" or "as" (which would be a simile).

Examples : "The waiting room was a furnace." (it was hot)

Examples : "The politician hatched an ambitious plan." (he developed it, as a chick from an egg)

A metaphor is a comparison between between two things without using like or as.

Some examples:

1. My brother is a geek.

2. These children are monkeys.

3. My brother is a cheetah.

4. He is a turtle

5. Life is a competition.

Now, a metaphor is an example of Figurative language.

Some can be sarcastic,

but make sure you do not mix up similes and metaphors. Remember, metaphors do not use like or as.
