I think making coffee is a chemical change because the signs for a chemical change are: there is a gas given off, a colour change,a different smell, heat given out or absorbed and the change cannot be easily reversed. In this case colour change and and a different smell are underlined and also you cannot regain the same ingredients you started with to make the coffee.
Physical. You are grinding up the beans into a powder, then pouring water through a filter with it to keep the larger particles (that will not suspend in water) from falling into the "coffee.". (As well as "unwanted" flavoring.)
