A maximum of two devices can be placed on an EIDE / PATA cable. Not all cables will include two connectors for doing so, though.

Typically EIDE cables connect to IDE Hard-drives and optical drives such as CD and DVD Drives. The cable connects between the motherboard of the computer and the hard-drive or optical drive. Normally most motherboards have two idea buses. You can have to drives per cable. So a total of 4 drives.
There are many different companies that produce EIDE hard drives. Wherever computer accessories are sold, there should be an area for hard drives that will likely carry EIDE ones. Check out BestBuy or Staples for assistance.

The purpose of SCSI hard drives are to exchange information between separate computers. Whereas, EIDE hard drives addresses a computers interface between its individual hard drive and its storage disks.

ATA and EIDE These are the most common terms for the same devices, although they are usually incorrect. According to CompTia's Guide to Hardware, ATA refers to drive interface standards as published by ANSI. IDE refers to the technology used internally by the hard drive. EIDE is used by manufacturers to refer to the parallel ATA (P-ATA) that CD drives, DVD drives, Zip drives, tape drives, and IDE hard drives use to connect to the mothermoard. While IDE is used more commonly abroad, EIDE is a more complete and accurate definition.
