Yes metallica started the thrash metal genre and influenced thrash metal today
When Metallica first came out they were the essence of thrash metal. But today they are the essence of hard rock. They no longer know what metal is.
Metallica's first 4 albums (Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All) all exhibited heavy metal and thrash metal qualities. It is evident that Metallica had some progressive metal tendencies when one listens to AJFA, and somewhat in Master of Puppets. By the Black Album, Metallica began developing a more "hard/heavy rock" feel, less "heavy metal" than their 4 previous albums. From the Black Album up to Death Magnetic, Metallica can still be considered heavy metal but with a greater hard rock feel to it.
Yes, they are! Metallica reigns because they are a very long lasting band that has inflenced almost every band that you can think of (after1983 that is). It also doesn't hurt that their self titled “Black” album has sold the made the most profit out of any other album ever. yes this includes mj's Thriller-he is a single artist not a band. he HAS that title when compares to other single artists, just not when compared to bands i.e.metallica. on a little bit more biased note, they're king because they kick some serious butt!
