Obsidian (volcanic glass) is unstable and it de-vitrifies (crystallizes) with time, it is also only produced from viscous, acidic lavas. You would therefore look for it in recently produced lavas in continental volcanoes. Thus while obsidian is not uncommon, it does not last very long geologically. Where it is found it is found in large amounts.
Volcanic glass, or pumice (vesicular obsidian).
It can be use for jewellery and stone age arrowheads, as the obsidian was much sharper when made into a specific shape. It can be sharpened to a very thin thickness. It is very shiny and is black. This is why Obsidian is common to be used in jewellery. Obsidian is igneous rock, which means that it was formed either inside (intrusive) or outside (extrusive) of the volcano. Igneous rocks are basically cooled lava, or magma.
Obsidian is formed from very rapidly cooling lava.
Finding a natural pearl inside of an oyster in the wild is very rare. You can purchase small, natural pearls, but they are very expensive because they are so rare. In the wild, only about 1 in 10,000 oysters have a pearl. The majority of pearls are farmed, and these are very common.
Obsidian is an extrusive rock that cooled very rapidly without forming crystals. As a result, obsidian has a smooth, shiny texture of a thick piece of glass.
Obsidian is a fairly common and has little collector value. The only Obsidian that has a bit more value is Rainbow Obsidian. Which is still fairly common.
In some very rare instances, obsidian can be nearly colorless, but normally it is brown to black.
no it is very common
Obsidian is an extrusive igneous rock. Volcanic in origin, it is very common in recent lava flows. Obsidian is primarily made of glass. Obsidian is amorphous, lacking any crystal structure found in gemstones. For more details, try asking the question - "What is obsidian"
