I'm a nose picker myself. Nose picking can cause nose bleeds. It can also lead to embarassment. I feel embarassed every time I pick my nose. I do it secretly, and that can make you feel guilty. To reduce my habit, I paint my nails. If you have pretty nails, why ruin them with boogers?

Picking your nose can make your nostrils red and sore if frequent picking is occurring. If you keep picking your nose, the inside of the nasal passage may become irritated, raw, and can cause bleeding of the nose. Once in a while is okay, but frequent picking can lead to a raw, and sometimes bloody nose.

It can also be perceived as rude to pick your nose in public. But as long as you keep it to yourself and wash your hands thoroughly it should be okay or you could use tissue like suggested in the previous answer.

There is no great risk in picking your nose. The worst thing that could happen is a nose bleed. I used to blow my nose hard and the only thing that happened was a nose bleed.
