Applesauce is usually a pure (in the food sense) mixture (in the chemistry/physics sense).

For example applesauce containing mold or woodshavings would be an impure (in the food sense) mixture (in the chemistry/physics sense) and would not be safe to eat.

An example of applesauce that is not a pure (in the food sense) mixture (in the chemistry/physics sense) but would be safe to eat would be applesauce with pear pieces.
