Living things are categorised as such if they carry out the 7 life processes. These are: Locomotion (movement), nutrition (gaining nutritional material from the environment or feeding), excretion (getting rid of waste), respiration (breakdown of food to release energy), growth, sensing (sensing environmental stimuli & reacting accordingly) and finally reproducing. This means that to be living, all organisms must produce offspring. Basically, all living things have babies of one sort or another. All of the above processes can be remembered by the mnemonic Mrs Gren or Mrs Nerg.

Natural selection is based on what 5 observations?

The theory of natural selection is based on the following assumptions about the nature of living things: 1. All organisms produce more offspring than can survive. 2. No two organisms are exactly alike. 3. Among organisms, there is a constant struggle for survival. 4. Individuals that possess favorable characteristics for their environment have a higher rate of survival and produce more offspring. 5. Favorable characteristics become more common in the species, and unfavorable characteristics are lost.

No of course not, it is how you produce offspring, with no offspring there would be no milk, or food for human consumption. Every living organism would no longer exist.
