Ringworm is the term used for the superficial fungal infection of the skin. It must be very old term. The central lesion tends to get clear. there is sort of elevation of the ring like in the periphery. From the appearance the term probably came into existence. Medicine is still orthodox, when it comes to traditions. As such my medical education is dominated by experts from UK. So I also tend to be more or less orthodox. So I am happy with this misnomer.

The term "ringworm" is a misnomer, since the condition is caused by fungi of several different species and not by parasitic worms
