I am not sure but I believe soaps are acids, because liquid soap is an acid.

ANS2:Soap is a salt formed from the reaction of sodium hydroxide with steric (octadecanoic) acid, a component of fat. Being the salt of a weak acid, it will function as a pH buffer. To answer your question, it is neither an acid or a base.
