The correct name of the institution is Ecole Superieure de Robert de Sorbon. It is a private establishment. In terms of French law it is authorised to award degrees based on the work experience and educational qualifications of the applicant who submits a portfolio of evidence. They charge a fee if they accept the candidate as suitable to progress to the adjudication stage. In the case of candidates that appear unsuitable to progress further they decline the application and return the fee. Successful candidates' portfolios are verified and assessed by three judges from a panel of eminently qualified academics (professors). If successful the candidate is awarded the degree. Unsuccessful candidates may be offered a lower degree or advised on the action that the candidate needs to take to reach the required standard. Jurists may ask the candidates questions to verify the evidence or verify the evidence independently by enquiries to third parties. The candidates that are judged by the professors are serious and suitably qualified in terms of the legal regulations. A candidate may pass the screening and be accepted but there is clearly a risk of failing before the jury of professors and losing a substantial sum of money. Other French academic institutions can follow same procedure where appropriate. It would therefore seem that Ecole Superieure de Robert de Sorbon is in effect accredited by the French government. The calibre of the judges and the discipline applied to the process is also important. Based on experience it appears to be a well run concern.

Why is Ecole Superieure Robert de Sorbon criticized when it is accredited by Ministere de l'Education Nationale as Sorbon.fr and listed in Ministere Officiel - ecoles professionnelles Vienne 86?

update January 2010 Agreed it may mean ''little''but does mean ''something'', having a degree from a legal unaccredited institution may be better then not having a degree at all. If it suits your purpose that 's personal. For further education an unacreddited is almost useless but for emploment purpose a legal unacreddited degree may be useable.update April 2009. It is critised on its academic merit. Legal status has nothing to do with it. I believe that any 'accredited' institution would not accept a degree from this private institute.. The below means very little if you wish to use this degree for further education or employment,The Ecole Superieure Robert de Sorbon's legal status is not questionable. It is a legal, registered authorized and private, institution of higher learning in France''Veriable at any French Embassy's education office''.Note : U.S. Offices hold no authority over institutions in FranceThe first problem is the marketing approach of the school, which naturally raises question marks ???? with lots of people. Why is the school so defensive ?The school publicly announces on the website ''We are not a diploma mill !!!""In reaction to that people's natural response is''the harder you deny something, 'the more guilty you appear''.A second issue is the quality. The minister of France does not''guarantee the quality of some of the private schools in France'',''this unless'' they have signed a contract with the ministry of education. This does not mean the school is operating illegally, but that the school isa ''legal, registered, authorized, private and ''independent institution ''.De Ecole Superieure Robert de Sorbon is French legal, authorized, private and ''independent, institution of higher learning under the supervision of the ministry of education, the regional arm ,the Academy Poitier. to which they ''have to'' submit relevant documentation, and which inspects the schools in it's region.Le contrôle de l'État sur les établissements privésTous les établissements privés, quelles que soient leurs relations avec l'État, sont soumis à un régime d'inspection.Translation :The control of the state regarding the private institutionsAll the private establishments, whatever their relations with the State, are subjected to a mode of inspection. The quality and acceptance of ESRS degrees ''might'' be questionable. The legal, private status, authorization as an institution of higher is not questionable.ÉSRS will be able to apply for ''national'' recognition after 5 years in good standing.Until it does it is,a legal, registered, authorized, private, independent French institution of highereducation ,supervised by the local academy Poitier.''''registration, accreditation, authorization, recognition ''''Having a name on a list is registration not accreditation. The ministry of education in France does not ''accredit'' private schools, it inspects private schools, after having passed the regulations and standards set by the academy authorizes them . ''No accreditation but authorization ''The ministry of education in France ''recognizes'' private schools, when they sign a ''contract with the state after 5 years in good standing.ESRS is a legal private authorized French independent institution of higher learning, without a contract with the state , 'the minister unfortunately does not guarantee the quality of (recognize)legal private authorized French independent institutions of higher learning. This does not mean that the quality of the school is low. (ESRS/ INSEAD)It means the school is legal registered authorized private and independent..
