2.5" SATA Hard Drives they are available at say best buy and online they re standard in many laptops i recommend you use 5400 rpm drive speed if you do replace. 5400 is the speed in which the harddrive turns inside the system. this will be on the package of the harddrive.

Yes, you just need to make sure that it is formatted to FAT32 file structure, and create folders: PS3, PICTURE, VIDEO, GAME, and MUSIC. The folders names MUST be in all caps. Also note that if you connect the external to the PS3 BEFORE formatting it there is a strong possiblity that it won't work, the PS3 will never see it again after that. It should also be mentioned that windows won't create a FAT32 partition larger than 32Gb to get around this you can do it in DOS. To do this, use windows to crate the partition (in disk management in admin tools) but DON'T format, then at the command prompt input "format X:/FS:FAT32" without quotes (X being the name of the drive you named for the external hard drive. Hope this helps!

PS3 do not have the ability to play games from the USB port connection so it depends on just how modified and jailbroken your PS3 is. It is not normally possible to play games from an external harddrive. PS3 were designed to use a standard laptop harddrive to upgrade the original harddrive with a larger size

i recently got a 1tb hard drive myself and couldn't figure out how to make it work with my ps3 mac and PC all at once. So i started to research file systems that would work with all 3 and fat32 is the only one that would work with all three and it is the one and only file system that works with the ps3. converting a tb into fat32 is or was a mess process for me. i spent 3 days trying to figure it out and when it all came down to it i did it in about 30 seconds. there is a program that you can download for a website that is very user friendly. the website is

http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.UK/index.htm?fat32format.htm

once you get to the website you can just click on the picture and it will install the program on your PC. you will then select the largest available unit size and start it. this should not take long at all and you should have a good format for all systems. the only bad thing about this format is that you cant transfer more then 4 gigs at a time in one file but you can transfer a 4 gig folder. confusing i know but i hope that you find this helpful.

Where do you find a hard disc for PlayStation 3?

You can find a Hard Drive for the PS3 at the website for DiscounTechnology. The optimal HDD (Hard Drive Disk) for the PS3 is SeaGate 2.5" SATA HDD with at least 5400 RPM. Any other will slow down your console anywhere from mildly to drastically. I recommend the SeaGate 2.5" SATA 500Gb HDD. Or if you would prefer a different size, they range anywhere from 1Gb to 1Tb (1Tb [One Terabyte] is equivalent to 1,000 Gigabytes) Be sure you only get the SeaGate brand, or your PlayStation 3's performance will be compromised. The RPM won't matter in this case, as it only determines the speed that the data is retrieved from the hard drive and sent to different locations. link for Playstation network support will help with instalation Can I upgrade the hard disk drive (HDD) inside my PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system

What does 2tb mean in a hard drive?

1TB stands for 1 terabyte which is 1,099,511,627,776, bytes (aprox 1100GB). Hard drive manufacturers use a different table corresponding 1TB to 1000GB which is just not true. So a 1TB hard drive usually gives you around 930Gbytes of storage capability.

Is the Seagate FreeAgent 500GB External Hard Drive compatible with the playstation 3?

From what I've read it does not initially support FAT32 file system, but if you hook it up to your PC you should be able to set up a FAT32 partition on your FreeAgent for use with the PS3, I personally have not tried this but I plan to when my 1TB FreeAgent arrives, I'll edit this answer once I find out exactly how this works.
