In this model of Winchester sintered steel was used on the receiver, rather than it being machined from solid steel. This made the bluing look different from the original look.
There have been many changes in the Winchester 94. 1964-1968, Winchester used Dulite hot bluing, known as the 3.0 process. In 1968 they switched partway through the year to Dulite "Black Chrome Plate" process. In 1972 the alloy of the receiver changed, and the metal would not blue. These were iron plated, and blued with the older Dulite 3.0 process.
