Yes, Dietrich Wilhelm Rudiger Bethge is the son of Eberhard and Renate Bethge. Renate Rudiger is the niece of theologian and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Eberhard was his closest friend. Another nephew of Dietrich Bonhoeffer is Christoph von Dohnanyi, long time conductor of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was an excellent pianist and Eberhard Bethge an excellent flutist.

He had several opportunities to escape Germany and live with relatives and he actually traveled out of the country in the early days of the war. But he stayed in Germany and tried to resist the take over of the church by the Nazi's. He also performed some espionage activities by smuggling information out of Germany. He was arrested and held in medium security until the last months of the war when he was held in a secret prison and eventually executed.
