It means that people often think things will improve if they change, simply because they think change will solve their problems. Think of someone near a fence that separates two fields. No matter which side of the fence this person is on, he always thinks the grass is greener on the other side: what he really wants is something different from what he has.
You can hope for change but usually you simply find that the grass is greener on the other side because that's where the "fertilizer" is being dumped.

Not only did she fail to give him a male heir, but she ended up having an incestuous relationship with her brother George (in order to cover up a miscarriage) and he eventually sentenced her to death (by decapitation). The grass really wasn't that green after all...

∙ 14y agoMost people believe such for the simple reason that they have notexperienced the other side and it appears better, even if it isn't. For example in the great depression of 1930 caused many people in the United states to move west towards California looking for a better life. But even though they thought that they would have a better life in California they just worked hard lives as migrant workers.

If so... That means that you always think that someone else or some place else has it better. You are never satisfied with what you have and instead want what other people have. A common example is like every girl wants a different type of hair color/texture/thickness then what they actually have. The message is that you think that someone else has a better situation then you. You think they have greener, better grass then you, even though you can't "see" the other side.
