∙ 16y agoNo. The bit sits in the diastema, which is a space between the incisors and molars. It is there because of the lengthening of the horse's face. It goes over the tongue. Sometimes a horse that is playing with its bit or fighting it can get its tongue over the bit. When this happens it either will not feel signals through the reins, or its tongue will be pinched and it will go wild with pain. This can often be prevented by keeping the cheek straps tight enough to stop the horse putting its tongue over the bit. no the BIT does not go under the tongue. it goes over the tongue. the bit actually works at the corner of the mouth where the lips join. there are bits made with chains, and some have a solid bar, some have longer shanks, all made for a different reason and for use on harder to control horses, but none go under the tongue no no

∙ 14y agoI'm not sure but I don't think the size of a bit will make a horse put his tongue over his bit. The bit may be to low. Make sure the bit is touching the corners of the horses mouth. A horse that puts his tongue over his bit is avoiding the riders control and it is considered bad behaviour. You can fit a tongue grid or a tongue port to the bit witch will prevent the horse from putting his tongue over the bit.

one way i found worked was really squeeze with your legs to push the horse/ pony forwrd but as your doing that ticle your reins and just "suggest" the horse should go down. there are many ways of getting a horse to go on the bit, but this one works for me. i worked for me to.
