It depends. Some of them are very shy and are almost afraid of their own shadow, while others are adventurous and outgoing. Some of them are also mean and like to scratch and nip you if you don't handle them correctly. Older males tend to be territorial and attack unfamiliar people.

Spider monkeys are not poisonous. The name "spider monkey" should not be taken too literally. They are not a hybrid of monkeys and Spiders; they are just monkeys that reminded some people of spiders because of their long limbs. It is a fanciful name.
