is there a grease fitting on a 2001dodge ram diesel steering box
In the dash, right in front of the steering wheel :)
Because a seal has failed.
check the power steering rack or the steering pump
yes
The power steering pump provides the pressure for the steering and brakes. Check the p.s. fluid.
Yes, there are only grease fittings on the lower control arm ball joints one each side. It seems that some were delivered with these grease fittings and some just had thread plugs instead.
Go to AutoZone.com "Do It Yourself" tab for on line instructions.
The upper ball joints in the front and rear have zerks, the outer tie rods could have zerks if they have been replaced.
Driver side of engine, between the power steering pump and the back of the timing cover.
Axle shaft u joint or the steering knuckle.
transmission fluid can make rubber expand check for leaks. as will and petroleum based oil if you used a grease gun on the boots make sure you used lithium grease. coulld be you filled them with too much grease or if you have power steering you might have fluid leaking into boots. if it has power steering fluid in the boot the grease will be really runny and you need a new rack and pinion.
The outer tie rods have the only zerks.everything else is sealed.
