Why is it that when a cue ball is sunk in billiards it returns when the other balls do not?

The cue ball can be a different weight or size from the others. If this is the case, the cue ball will be difficult to control for the way it acts after hitting object balls. Some tables use a laser and sensor to "read" the ball coming down the chute, and will force the cue ball to take a different route. I believe some others use a magnetic cue ball, or at least there may be a piece of metal in the cue ball and a magnet in the ball return system to somehow differentiate them.

What is a jump break billiards cue?

A jump break cue is a cue that billiard players use to break with and also the same cue breaks down into a jump cue. Traditionally, a break cue is a heavier cue that has a stiff shaft to transfer power from the player to the cue and ultimately to the racked balls on the other side of the table. There is a notion that a thinner shaft will give a "whip" action. this "whip action ismilliseconds after the hit on the cue ball, the shaft is temporally deformed and in another couple milliseconds, the shaft violently returns back to its original straight form. The violent return to its original form is the whip action. The jump portion of the cue is the shaft and the front prong (front 12" of cue behind the shaft and before the handle of the cue) of the cue that separates from the rest of the cue.Legal jumps in billiards are strikes on the upper half of the cue ball. The action of the cue ball is pressed down onto the table and as a reaction, the cue ball squirts in an upward motion leaving the table surface.Jump cues need to be light in weight as to make contact with the cue ball and be off of the it so the milliseconds it takes for the cue ball to respond, it won't be restricted by a jump cue that is still in the way of the cue ball's jump.

In pool what does using your English mean?

Using English in pool means positioning the cue at certains spots on the cue ball in order for the ball to curve a certain way (example-Left hand English, Right Hand English etc)

Are all cue balls the same?

No. In addition to slight difference between models and /manufacturers, there are generally 3 type of cue balls. The normal regulation play ball that is not intended for use on a coin operated table is most common and is what should be used to learn and practice cue ball control. Cue balls made for use in coin operated machines need a way to be released so they are not captured like the numbered balls - so, these cue balls are either larger (no longer common) or have a metallic center (slightly heavier than a standard cue ball).

How can you measure how fast your billiards break shot is?

The easiest way to measure break speed is to record the sound of the period from the cue striking the cue ball to the cue ball striking the object ball, and calculate the speed from the duration. Mark the spot on the table for both where the center of the object ball is and center of the cue ball is and measure this distance. Perform the break. Record the sound and use a computer program that allows sound file editing, such as Audacity. Find the 2 peaks, the first being the cue to cue ball and shortly after, the cue ball to object ball. This should be measured in thousandths of a second (this is Time). The difference between the two times is the elapsed time of cue ball travel. The distance between the 2 points on the table minus 2 1/4 inches (distance from edge to center of each ball, times 2) is the distance travelled in that time period this is Distance). Use the following formula to calculate the speed the cue ball travelled this distance inthe measure time - Break Speed in MPH is = Distance / 12 x 60 / 88 / Time Multiply by 1.467 to get feet per second. Multiply that by 12 to get inches per second. It is worth noting that if you do exactly the same break with a 19 ounce cue and with a 21 ounce cue, both with the same tip, the fastest speed will be with the lighter cue because acceleration is the primary factor in producing a fast break.

What is inside of a cue ball?

There are two types of cue balls - those made for regular play on a conventional pool or billiards table and those made for use on a coin operated table. The center of the cue ball is of the same material as the surface unless it is a cue ball specifically intended for use on coin operated tables. The coin table cue balls today are either larger but of the same materials, or are magnetic. The majority of coin table cue balls today have a magnet inside that prevents it from being "trapped" the way the numbered balls are when they are pocketed, so that it returns to the player.

What weighs more cue ball or colored balls?

Both are the same weight in most cases. For coin operated tables, most tables today use a magnetic cue ball which is slightly heavier than the numbered balls. It also can mean the it is a bit harder to control the cue ball. Older coin operated tables used a larger cue ball, not magnetic, which in addition to weighing more than the numbered balls, creates other cue ball control problems.

How can an oversized cue ball return?

On some commercial pool tables, you must insert a coin to release the balls. As the balls are sunk, they go back into the holding area and are removed from play. This keeps people from playing forever on one coin. The problem is that if the cue ball is accidentally sunk, it needs to be returned so the game can continue. One way of doing this is by making the cue ball slightly larger than the numbered balls. When the balls go into a pocket, they roll along rails underneath the table until they come to a "hole". The smaller numbered balls fall into the hole and go into the holding area; the cue ball is too large to fit, so it rolls past the hole and is returned to the players. It's possible to design it in the opposite way (with the cue ball slightly smaller, so that it falls into a hole and is returned, while the larger balls continue on into the holding area), but the other way is safer: if a ball somehow jumps the hole and is accidentally returned to the players, it's not a big deal (they can just ignore it), but if the cue ball were to jump the hole and go into the holding area, it would immediately stop the game.

How to get tobacco stain out of mustache?

Probably the most direct way to remove a tobacco stain from a mustache would be to cut off the hair, stop using tobacco, and regrow the mustache. An alternative would be to stop using tobacco and let the stained hair grow out, trimming as appropriate. Eventually there will be no stain left.

Is there a way to improve mustache growth?

the nest way to improve moustache growth is shaving it 2 or 3 times at first and it ewill grow lightening fast and will be like an adult

In pool after you pot a cue can you hit a ball behind the head line?

How do you pot a snooker ball?

To put spin or side on a cue ball you strike the ball off-centre. So imagine a point in the centre of the ball which is half way up from the table and directly opposite to the direction you wish the ball to travel. If you strike the ball around this point you will force the ball to spin. So strike below this point to put backspin on the ball, above this point to put top-spin and either side to put side-spin. Obviously you can impart both top and side or bottom and side by striking the ball towards a diagonal. The spin you put on the ball will act to move the ball in the direction of the spin. This is most notable in back-spin where once the forward momentum of the ball is taken by striking another ball the backspin cause the ball to move in th opposite direction of the strike. The amount of spin placed on the ball can take affect as the ball is moving, so enough side-spin can cause the ball to follow a curved path. The effects of the spin can be improved by tilting to follow the type of spin you wish t impart; so hold the butt of the cue higher to get better backspin or hold the butt lower to get better top-spin. Doing this with side spin becomes difficult as you have to adjust the angle of the strike. In its most extreme you can strike downwards towards the side of the ball to cause it to curve - this takes a lot of practice and you have to be careful you do not damage the table. However I find the most important part of putting spin on the ball is ensuring that you follow through the stroke with your cue and make the stroke smooth and decisive. If you snatch at the cue you will either hit the ball in the wrong place or scoop the ball causing it to jump. I hope you have found this helpful.
